Canadian Mortgage Strategies & Investments (“CMSI Pacific”) is a full service mortgage brokerage firm and a leader in commercial debt and construction financing across all major asset classes. CMSI Pacific has a proven track record in negotiating financing transactions ranging from $5,000,000 to $200,000,000.  CMSI Pacific arranges in excess of $600,000,000 on an annual basis. This volume of financing has allowed CMSI Pacific to develop strong relationships with a number of key lenders across the country, including CMHC's RCFI program, Canada Life, BentallGreenOak, Manulife, Desjardins, Industrial Alliance, QuadReal, AIMCO, Bank of America, Canadian Western Bank, Vancity, Coast Capital, the credit union system of BC & Alberta and all Canadian major banks, all of whom we deal with on a regular basis. In addition, CMSI Pacific has an intimate relationship with CMHC and each of their product offerings. These relationships enable CMSI Pacific to provide our clients with the best financing terms and structures available in the marketplace.

Morgan Brewster CMSI Pacific

Morgan Brewster, Managing Partner
Morgan joined CMSI in 2013 as a mortgage underwriter and is the managing partner of CMSI.  As a trusted advisor to developers, investors, family offices and institutions across Canada, he is involved in all aspects of structuring a transaction.  With a focus on multi-family construction (rental, condos, townhomes) and income producing assets (residential, industrial, retail), he has arranged over $3B in mortgage debt.  Morgan relies on a large network including all major commercial lenders, CMHC, consultants, and financial partners to ensure the best outcome for each transaction.

Morgan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Calgary and the Canadian Investment Manager designation from the Canadian Securities Institute.  He is a registered sub-broker in British Columbia and licensed associate in Alberta.  Prior to joining CMSI, he was an investigator for the British Columbia Financial Services Authority.

Outside of work, Morgan enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids.  His passions include history, playing music, and boating.

Benjamin Curry CMSI Pacific

Benjamin Curry, Partner
Benjamin has been an integral part of CMSI Pacific since joining in 2018 and has developed a strong network of developers, commercial property owners and institutional investors across Western Canada. Benjamin specializes in arranging financing for CMHC insured rental apartment construction, multi-family construction, and income producing properties. He began his financial career in corporate structuring and capital financing in the public equity markets. Prior to joining CMSI Pacific, he worked with a leading residential mortgage brokerage as a top producing sub-broker.

Benjamin holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Geography (Urban) with a minor in Commerce from the University of British Columbia. He is also currently registered as a sub-mortgage broker under the Mortgage Brokers Act of British Columbia and a Mortgage Associate under the Real Estate Act of Alberta.

Out of the office, Benjamin is busy raising his two young boys and spending time at their family cabin in the Gulf Islands.

Steve Commons CMSI Pacific

Steve Commons, Partner
Steve Commons began his real estate career in 2007 at a global commercial real estate firm before joining a commercial lender in 2011 where he served as a Vice President of Origination. During that role, Steve was responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and negotiating commercial mortgage transactions of up to $125 million in major urban markets across Canada. Steve’s diverse experience includes a range of asset types including residential (purpose built rental, condominiums and townhouses) as well as industrial, office, retail, hotels, and student housing. His assignments have included construction, income, value-add, bridge, and land development.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics (Major) and Political Science (Minor) from Simon Fraser University. He is registered as a sub-mortgage broker under the Mortgage Brokers Act of British Columbia and a Mortgage Associate under the Real Estate Act of Alberta.  He also holds a certificate in negotiation from Harvard University and has completed courses within the Urban Land Economics program at UBC.

Outside the office, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He is passionate about playing sports, volunteering in the community and coaching youth sports.

Hayden Ritter CMSI Pacific

Hayden Ritter, Associate
Hayden joined CMSI in 2020. He specializes in analyzing loan structures, preparing complex loan submission packages and funding commercial mortgages. Before joining CMSI, Hayden worked for one of Canada's largest specialty food importers and real estate developer, Bosa Foods. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Calgary.

Declan Hodgins CMSI Pacific

Declan Hodgins, Associate
Declan joined CMSI in 2023, and specializes in financial analysis, financial modelling, and preparation of submission documents for loan applications. Previously, he worked in real estate development, health technology, and post-secondary administration. Declan holds an HBA degree from the Ivey School of Business, as well as an International Relations degree from the University of Western Ontario.

In his free time, Declan enjoys history, cooking, skiing, and exploring the outdoors.

Caitlin MacDonald CMSI Pacific

Caitlin MacDonald, Office Coordinator
Caitlin handles all the CMSI office, administrative, and bookkeeping duties. She has been with the company since 2015 and is the first point of contact for our clients. Caitlin also assists our partners with various professional and personal tasks, helping reduce to-do lists whenever she can.

Caitlin received her B.A. degree from UBC majoring in psychology and still maintains a passion for learning about human behavior. Outside of the office you can find Caitlin in one of her favorite workout classes, walking the seawall or dining with friends.
